Every state dedicates the festival to different God but the general concept behind its celebration is the victory of good over evil.

In northern states, plays and acts are performed by individuals as a tribute to Lord Ram for his triumph over evil. And on the 10th day of the Navaratri, also known as Dussehra, we set fire to huge ideals of Ravan, Kumbh Karan, and Meghnath as a symbol of conquest over the evil forces.

In this southern states of India goddess, Saraswati along with Laxmi and Ganesha are worshipped through a series of rituals.

Devotees also keep a 9 day fast to show their devotion to God, it is believed that it will bring them good fortune and prosperity. Apart from that, it is also believed that the beginning of Navaratri is auspicious and if we start a new business or any other thing, the results are expected to be good.

It also marks the beginning of the festival of lights, which is celebrated 20 days after the Navratri ends.
